Fatal accident claims life of motorcyclist

The rules of the road in Ohio are in place to provide protection for everyone. That includes truckers, drivers of cars, motorcyclists, bicyclists and pedestrians. In some instances, accidents occur as a result of someone violating the law. In others, accidents just happen due to circumstance. Regardless, when there is an accident, it can result in a fatality. If there is a fatal accident, it is important that those who are affected by it know how to move forward with a legal case for compensation.

A recent Bethel Township crash between a pickup truck and a motorcycle resulted in the death of the motorcyclist. The accident happened as the truck was turning, and it cut off the motorcycle. The bike, a Harley Davidson being ridden by a 52-year-old man, hit the truck's passenger side. The motorcycle rider was killed instantly. He did not have a helmet on, but law enforcement stated that the accident was of sufficient severity that a helmet might not have helped. The 55-year-old driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries. Authorities do not believe that any drugs or alcohol were involved.

Along with the obvious emotional pain of losing a loved one, there are also other issues that have to be taken into account in the aftermath. These include the loss of income, the loss of companionship, the pain and suffering for the decedent and the family, as well as other practical matters. The insurance company will likely try to offer a settlement to preclude the family from seeking significant damages in a wrongful death lawsuit. Those who have suffered the loss of a loved one in an accident need to be aware of their rights to seek compensation in a legal case.

While some might think that the absence of a helmet might affect the ability to file a case, that is not necessarily how Ohio law works. In this incident, the motorcycle rider died after a pickup truck cut in front of him and there was an accident. An experienced attorney can help families who have lost a loved one in a tragic accident like this.
